Our Story
Back in 2017, George Sloan was reading an article in the Milwaukee Journal about the US Kubb Nationals.
He shared the story with five of his buddies (Scott, Kevin, Andy, Mark & Brian) and Energy City Kubb in Batavia, IL, was born.
This group of fun-loving misfits knew nothing about the sport of Kubb, but that didn't stop them from jumping in
headfirst. It was an easy transition from drinking in the garage to drinking on a Kubb pitch.
After making our first kubb sets completely wrong and trying to follow rules we didn't understand,
George made his way to his first Kubb tournament at the Ice Games in Wisconsin. He shared the experience with
the guys, and we soon made corrections on the kubb sets we built along with the rules we followed.
Soon after, we approached our Moose league, and they gave us the "thumbs-up" to begin playing Kubb on their horseshoe
pitches every week. Still in our first year of Kubb, Evan Fitzgerald and Dave Giese travelled to Batavia, IL, and
convinced us to hold the first ever Illinois Kubb Championship in 2018.
Since those early days, our core group of 6 has continued to develop our Kubb club, lead our effort to #Kubbeveryweek
at weekly leagues (2 years and counting), go to countless Kubb tournaments in the Midwest, and have our yearly Kubb tournaments.
We are getting better, but so is the competition out there. While we may not finish on the top podiums yet,
we are consistently known as the Kubb club that has the most fun. We can't wait to see what happens in our
Kubb future!
